Skin tags are small, soft growths that sit on or hang from the surface of the skin. They are commonly found around the neck, underarms, chest, eyelids and other areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing.
They do not usually require medical treatment. However, you may choose to have them removed if they are frequently irritated, catching on clothing or affecting how you feel about your skin.
At Beverley Alexandra, suitable skin tags can be treated using a precise plasma device, allowing Beverley to target the unwanted tissue while minimising disruption to the surrounding area.
All areas are assessed before treatment to confirm that removal is appropriate.
A precise plasma device is used to deliver a controlled arc of energy to the skin tag. This targets the unwanted tissue without the need for traditional surgery.
Depending on the size and location of the tag, topical anaesthetic cream may be applied before treatment.
The treated area may be red or sensitive afterwards, and a small crust can develop while the skin heals. This should be left to fall away naturally.
Some redness, tenderness or swelling may be present immediately after skin tag removal. A small crust may form over the treated area during the healing process.
Avoid picking or rubbing the area and follow the aftercare advice provided at your appointment.
The treated skin should be kept clean and protected from unnecessary sun exposure while it heals.

Most skin tags do not need treatment. Removal is usually chosen because a tag is catching, becoming irritated or causing a cosmetic concern.
The standard appointment includes removal of up to five suitable skin tags. If you have more than five, Beverley can assess them and advise you on the appropriate appointment or cost.
A skin tag that has been fully removed does not usually grow back in the same place. However, this does not prevent new skin tags from developing elsewhere.
Any treatment that breaks or heats the skin carries a risk of temporary redness, pigmentation changes or scarring. The likelihood varies depending on the size and location of the skin tag, your skin type and how the area heals.
No. Treatment is only offered for skin tags that can be confidently identified and are suitable for cosmetic removal.
Any growth that has changed in size, colour, shape or texture, or that bleeds without being caught, should be assessed by a GP or dermatologist rather than treated cosmetically.
Cutting, tying or burning a skin tag yourself can lead to bleeding, infection, skin damage or the accidental treatment of something that is not a skin tag. Professional assessment and removal are recommended.
The area will be assessed before treatment. If Beverley is not satisfied that the growth is a harmless skin tag, treatment will not go ahead and you may be advised to seek medical assessment.
